Echo is a dynamic, expanding, and diverse community just like the world around us.
Get a feel for what is going on within the Echo community. Whether you are a prospective user or advertiser it’s likely that you want to experience what Echo can offer. Here we provide not only the vitals like recent chats, newly created Beacons, or the number of users, but more importantly, insights generated from our user base. In the upcoming months this will include trending topics and places, regional hot spots and other slices of user data. Also, for you privacy nuts out there, this is full disclosure – you see what we see. Say good bye to the black box of data collection.
Until these features are live on the web, however, let us tell you about what Echo can do for you right now.
Echo lets you add friends from multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and even your phonebook. Once added to your contact list, Echo lets you interact not only with those who are online, but also those who are offline. Want to chat with a friend who’s not around? Send him (or her!) a message to come online.
Echo uses push notification so that you can always reach your friends, even after they sign off. Beyond that you can chat, play games, create events, and interact in many ways to come, with anyone on your list.
One of the innovative things that Echo does (not to toot our own horns) is allow you to join and create public chat rooms in addition to private ones that are only for friends. Feel like talking to some new people? Browse the public chat list and search for a topic that catches your eye. Want to keep it local? Echo can sort chat rooms by the creator’s distance from you so that you can talk with people nearby. Add in a topic search as well and you have just found local people with the same ideas—all ready to chat.
While status updates and even tweets are, at best, near real-time, Echo chats are live. This is real interaction, not just a wall post or news feed. Better yet, you can view the chat list at any time and check out the profiles of other users that you find interesting. You can then add them to your contact list and interact in the future. Echo makes it possible to branch out beyond what and who you know, breaking the friend-centric mold that keeps other social networks limited to existing networks. There are tons of interesting people out there. Go find them.
Echo displays users as different color dots depending on whether or not you know them. Green dots are your friends. Red squares are other users that you have not yet added to your contact list. What you can do with each user depends on their status as friend or potential friend. For example, friends can receive messages when offline, you will also get status updates, and be able to see when they sign back on. Don’t worry, any user can be added as a friend at any time. Gone are the complex searches that make it impossible to add people you actually know in real life.
Echo also lets you see what’s going on visually with Beacons. Now your friends and your events display and update on the map. While users are marked red and green, Beacons are blue and can be distinguished by the rings that emanate from their center. Just like traditional event invitations, you can tap a Beacon and it displays all the relevant information you need: start time, location, theme, etc. But Echo takes things one-step further. Lost? Echo can map out directions from your location to the event you can’t find.
Want to see who’s there? Every Beacon comes with a built-in chat room. Now you can talk to users already at the party and see if it’s bumpin’ before you arrive. Keep in touch with other users while you’re there, or plan out in advance what supplies are needed, using the chat as a message board. Better yet, Echo can sync to Facebook so that your social calendar is unified. Good luckfinding an excuse not to show up.
Echo lets you interact with people you don't know in addition to those you do. Because Echo comes with a built in community, there's bound to be someone with the same interests, looking to talk. Check out the chat section to see who's around. When you find what you're looking for, start talking!
Using the GPS from your mobile phone, Echo can sort chat rooms by location and even show users near by. When searching for a chat room, select the sort by location option to keep it local. That way you make sure you find exactly what you're looking for, right around the corner.
Unlike check-in's or status feeds, Echo lets you talk with real people in real time. Now you can keep up to the minute on any topic, where you want, when you want, with real people looking to chat.
Echo lets you manage your events as wells your friends all from the map. By syncing your entire social life, including Twitter and Facebook, to one application you can streamline your existing social networks while meeting and talking to new people at the same time. Better yet, because Echo goes with you on your phone, you're never out of the loop. Now you can change plans on the fly (or make new ones) and never miss a step.
